GROUPS/WORKSHOPS

To learn more about Group Counseling at the University of Oregon Counseling Center, click here. To get into a group you will need to have an initial session,click here for more information and then meet with the group leader(s). If you have already had an initial session, contact the front desk at 346-3227 to set up a time to meet the group leader. Groups and workshops are available only to University of Oregon students and are provided at no charge. All workshops and groups meet at the Counseling Center, located on the second floor of the University Health and Counseling Center Building (formerly the Student Health Center), unless otherwise noted.

My Body, My Self
This workshop will help people develop healthier attitudes and feelings toward food and weight. Topics include: body image, self-esteem, anger anad assertion, perfectionism, and strategies for coping with stress.

Eating Disorders
For women who have or have had an eating disorder and are ready to address the issues that have caused it. Focus will be on feelings and relationship style.

Healthy Relationships
Many problems students experience have some basis in their interpersonal relationships(i.e., romantic partners, friends, family, etc.). Each person, at one time or another, finds that they need to learn to cope with changing levels of intimacy in each of their relationships. This group is open to any student who is struggling with establishing and/or maintaining satisfying relationships and are subsequently left feeling unhappy, stressed, lonely or empty. Common themes typically include: communication issues, trust issues, handling conflict, relationship stages, etc.

Grief and Loss Group
This group will be offered for students who have experienced a significant loss, such as the death of a family member, partner, friend, or other loved one either recently or in the past.

Depression Management
It is common for college students to experience feelings of depression. This educational and support group will provide participants with a variety of practical strategies to manage and reduce their depression.

 International Students
This group is designed for international students to share their experiences and concerns, explore their values and beliefs, and talk about their changing roles in a new environment.

Personal Issues
This group privides an opportunity for students to explore and work through issues regarding intimacy and interpersonal relationships.

Women's Voices
A process group for women who want to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and how they relate to others. A safe, supportive environment to explore and address personal difficulties with other women.
Leader: Maria Aguirre

Men's Group
How to survive and thrive in the 21st century. Explore your values, beliefs, relationships and roles in this safe and constructive group.
Leader: Jon Davies



New Directions
A group designed to explore addictive behaviors, raise awareness, and provide skills to change behavior patterns that do not work for you.
Leader: Michelle Burt


Madskills
A psycho-educational group that focuses on anger, stress management, and general emotional regulation skills. This group explores how male socialization and gender role expectations affect our emotional expression and attitudes toward help-seeking. Principles from Aikido and Western psychology are used to help teach participants new coping skill.

Social Anxiety Management
If you sometimes feel anxious and uncomfortable around other people, or worory about saying something embarassing in groups or at parties, this group will help provide practical tools to assist you in participating in social activities that you have been avoiding.
