PERSONS must be enrolled in a University of Oregon Counseling Psychology Graduate Program. This position is a strategic alliance with that department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Programming Specialist/LifeSkills GTF position is vital to the UCTC’s efforts to implement effective prevention programming for the UO campus. This position is specifically targeted to expand the scope of our intervention beyond traditional counseling. The Programming Specialist/Lifeskills GTF teaches a 3-credit CPSY 407 course during Winter and Spring Terms, in addition to providing clinical services to UCTC clients throughout the academic year. The Lifeskills course provides psycho-educational intervention to 30 students per term. CPSY 407 reaches 60 students per year who may not otherwise access mental health resources. Topics addressed include self-esteem, stress management, relationship issues, effective communication, substance abuse prevention, and cultural awareness. The course provides many practical tools which enhance the academic, personal, and career success of students.
The Programming Specialist/Lifeskills GTF plays a pivotal role in assisting the UCTC in providing quality, positive learning experiences for UO students, serving as an important source of information and skill development for students who might not utilize our clinical services and enhancing our preventive role in the broader UO campus community. The Programming Specialist/Lifeskills GTF also provides clinical services including initial assessment, brief individual therapy, and crisis intervention.
This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, an understanding of the UO student population, clinical experience and skills, administrative and time management skills, commitment to multicultural development, and the ability to work effectively within an agency setting. Enthusiasm, flexibility and creativity desired.
