Confidentiality and Privacy

 

The University Counseling and Testing Center upholds each student’s individual right and privilege to privacy. No information about your therapeutic work, or the fact that you have sought services is released to anyone without your written permission. This includes your parents, roommate, spouse/partner, and university personnel. The fact that you are currently seeing a counselor or have previously sought services will not in any way appear on your academic record. The UCTC follows the ethical and legal standards of the State of Oregon which ensures confidentiality except in the following situations:

  • You provide a written consent/release specifying your desire to have your UCTC record released to a person or agency
  • There is imminent danger to yourself or others
  • Your therapist may release information if there is a concern about a child being abused or neglected
  • Your therapist may release information if a court orders a release of your records
