The Oregon University Suicide Prevention Project (OUSPP), Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) and the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) are pleased to announce a training in Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR). The day long workshop will be held at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon on May 18, 2007. The training is open to OUSPP project staff and allied professionals and students at consortium schools. You may read more about the training here. AMSR training was developed by some of the nation's most prominent leaders in the field, including Shawn Shea, M.D., well-known author on the subject of suicide assessment. The sponsors will offer 6.5 CE credits for this workshop. To receive credit, participants must attend the entire training and complete an online evaluation form. The trainer for this workshop is Donn Marshall PhD. Donn has worked in university mental health settings for over 20 years. Donn has served as Director and chief psychologist for the Counseling, Health & Wellness Services, University of Puget Sound, where he recently was appointed as the Associate Dean of Students. A frequent contributor at regional and national conferences, Donn has presented on issues including sexual assault prevention, sexual/affective identity, internet addictions and abuse, suicide prevention and the clinical assessment of suicidality. The workshop will be held on the UO campus within walking distance of several restaurants and motels. You can find directions to the Bean West conference site here. Since our usual housing resource appears to be completely booked on May 17 & 18, we ask that you make your own hotel/motel reservations. We suggest that you do this soon, since many other activities and events are held in Eugene spring term. Here is a link to Eugene accommodations. To attend the training, please complete the linked registration form and return it along with your fee. The registration fee is $60 for OUSPP members and $80 for others. OSU, PSU and UO have prepaid for their counseling staff & trainees. The fee will cover the cost of the training, as well as a buffet lunch. Please submit all registration materials by Thursday, April 26. There will be no on-site registration. Click here for registration form. We are very excited about hosting this training, and we look forward to seeing you there. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mark Evans, Ph.D. at mevans@uoregon.edu.
